Ananthaya Beach opened on a headland above Rekawa Bay, on a stretch of Sri Lanka's southern coast that most of the tourist industry had, until recently, driven straight past.
That was the point. Twenty minutes from Tangalle, Rekawa is a fishing village with a lagoon behind it and a protected nesting beach in front. There is no strip, no chain hotels, no procession of tuk-tuks. What there is, at night, is the sound of the ocean and very little else.
We built on high ground rather than on the sand. It means every one of our twenty rooms looks out over the bay, and it means the buildings sit safely above the shoreline — a decision anyone familiar with this coast will understand.
The resort is deliberately small. One restaurant, one pool, one spa, a garden that the local monitor lizards and monkeys consider theirs. Twenty rooms is few enough that the kitchen can cook to your preferences and the team knows your name by the second morning.
Guests find us for the turtles, the birds at Kalametiya, the surf, or the three national parks within driving distance. A good number of them end up spending the week by the pool instead. We consider both outcomes a success.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a lovely time. Rooms were very spacious and just 2 months old. Everything looked and felt luxorious. The pools were great. Staff was amazingly friendly and the food was good too. Amazing place to hide away from busy Sri Lanka for a few days, albeit that it’s a tad expensive.
The location is perfect for relaxation on the pool. There is a wild beach nearby, 5 min walk, very beautiful as well, calm ocean, easy to swim. The room is large and clean, service friendly, tasty food at the restaurant. There is available wine list and beverages at the bar. You can find nearby some other choices to eat dinner. Always fresh fish available, depends on the chefs ability 🙂 to be cooked good or great. Quiet, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The sunrise is amazing!
Rooms clean and spacious. Great views. Nice pool, calm too. Service was slow, unfortunually., this not meeting value for price expectations.Nearly half an hour wait between order and delivery, even when being first in breakfast restaurant.

Peaceful quaint resort with a beautiful view of the beach! Loved their service, very warm and welcoming staff. Their affogato is a must try for coffee lovers.
Nice place, quiet and relaxing. If you are looking for remoted place for relax this is the one. Nice big swimming pool. On the other hand the beach is down under the hill (7 minutes) and is more for fishermen than for swimming. The sand is dirty but ocean is calm and you can swim there. The hotel is expanding (building new building next to current place) so it can make noise occasionally and who know how this place will change in 2025.
